Oil Down and Grace

"He giveth more grace when the burdens grow greater,

He sendeth more strength when the labors increase;

To added afflictions He addeth His mercy,

To multiplied trials, His multiplied peace.

When we have exhausted our store of endurance,

When our strength has failed ere the day is half done,

When we reach the end of our hoarded resources,

Our Father’s full giving is only begun.

Fear not that thy need shall exceed His provision,

Our God ever yearns His resources to share;

Lean hard on the arm everlasting, availing;

The Father both thee and thy load will upbear.

His love has no limits, His grace has no measure,

His power no boundary known unto men;

For out of His infinite riches in Jesus,

He giveth, and giveth, and giveth again."

Songs have become more real to me in the last few years. Words. Phrases. Verses. Coming to me to bless and encourage me.

This song rings with truth. For my students. For the Grenadian church. For your people. For your church.

Since Christmas, it seems we have been in a battle. All of life is a battle, but it seems more intense these past months. Several situations at school and church have been definitely trying. It makes me more aware of my need to be in constant connection with God. You can't fight darkness on your own. Whether that darkness is students from a broken home or struggles bigger then that, God is the only One Who can give power to conquer that darkness.

One of the highlights of this month was Independence Day celebration. The kids came to school dressed in Grenadian colors. Some of the parents came to cook the national dish, Oil Down. There is nothing quite compared to Oil Down in the States. It is comprised of deliciously seasoned chicken, starchy breadfruit, spinach-like callilou, carrots, fatty pig tail and snout, green banana, shredded coconut, seasonings, and flavorful dumplings.

Each class had a presentation about different important people in Grenada. We also did an independence day quiz and played traditional games. Local snacks, donated by parents, were sold as well. Overall it was a fun day, and the kids loved it.

This past Friday was our schools cross country day. The route was close to 3 miles. Some of us teachers ran with, or prodded, the kids. Most of the children did well and I enjoyed something different for the day.

It’s been busy, but good. Praise God for His grace!
